One of the University of Virginia (UVA) Department of Athletics’ team physician, Dr. Bobby Chhabra joined the institution in 2002. Also serving as a faculty member, he educates students on sports medicine and upper extremity health. In 2013, Dr. Bobby Chhabra was honored with an appointment as Chair of UVA’s Department of Orthopaedic Surgery.
In late 2014, Becker’s Hospital Review named the UVA Department of Orthopaedic Surgery (also referred to as UVA Orthopaedics) as one of the country’s top 125 Hospitals and Health Systems with Great Orthopedic Programs. When formulating the list, Becker’s took into consideration UVA Orthopaedics’ ratings among third-party entities to support its decision. In addition, Becker’s praised the program’s comprehensive care support in hand and upper extremity surgery, pediatrics, sports medicine, and hip and knee replacement. Other areas considered included the department’s advancement in medicine through research and care of severe orthopedic cases in Central Virginia.
The department also garnered recognition from U.S. News and World Report’s 2014-2015 Best Hospitals guide, which noted UVA Orthopaedics as standing out among the top 25 percent of orthopaedic programs in the country, based on factors such as patient outcomes and safety, staffing levels, and technology use.
